Quiara's Theme, Version 1.1 (September 2022-July 2024)
I made a couple minor edits to the site in the fall of 2022, some of them better than others. Neocities doesn't have a great way to backdate these changes, so I'm going off of chat logs with friends and metadata on the images themselves to get a rough timeline of when these changes happened.
- The most obvious of these is that I altered the header and footer, thinking I wanted something a little nicer than the obvious MS Paint doodle up top (and on bottom, but inverted). Ironically, I think it took me longer to make the previous header than the one you see up there, which was made in about five minutes using the program GraphicsGale. I think the black-and-white pattern is... kind of bad? There's an obvious moire effect when you scroll down, and I think it's kind of an eyesore with all those black and white squares.
- The footer, incidentally, is quite funny, I think! I don't think it was inspired by the "speech bubbling" meme? I mean, maybe it was. I don't remember running into it before. I still think it's funny, even if it's an MS Paint thing.
- I added a new favicon! It's of Qbert. I would have used him earlier, but I hadn't cracked the code for exporting images with transparency yet. I decided I'd still use the Q-square favicon for pages that are crossword-related.
- I thought it might be nice to add some sort of background underneath the left and right menus. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't! It's quite ugly, and ruins the neat black-and-white aesthetic going on with its gradients.
The site remained like this for almost two years! The crude thing to say would be "I abandoned the website," but I didn't *really* abandon the website - like, I updated the speedsolving page pretty religiously all throughout that time. But I didn't make any layout changes in the interim, and I didn't upload any pages that were included on the left and right menus after spring of 2023, so the site basically looked unchanged for a good long while. But then once I got the Slate job, I realized, crap: I really need to make this site look a little nicer!
Hence... Version 1.2.
